Surely they have more important things to do...

I agree that to some degree, in some cases, the showing of rear ends/underwear is alittle out of hand. But do our lawmakers have nothing better to do with their time than to pass a bill against it? and who decides whether or not the 'display' is inappropriate?

RICHMOND, Virginia (AP) -- Virginians who wear their pants so low their underwear shows may want to think about investing in a stronger belt.

The state's House of Delegates passed a bill Tuesday authorizing a $50 fine for anyone who displays his or her underpants in a "lewd or indecent manner."

Del. Lionell Spruill Sr., a Democrat who opposed the bill, had pleaded with his colleagues to remember their own youthful fashion follies.

During an extended monologue Monday, he talked about how they dressed or wore their hair in their teens. On Tuesday, he said the measure was an unconstitutional attack on young blacks that would force parents to take off work to accompany their children to court just for making a fashion statement.

"This is a foolish bill, Mr. Speaker, because it will hurt so many," Spruill said before the measure was approved 60-34. It now goes to the state Senate.

The bill's sponsor, Del. Algie T. Howell, has said constituents were offended by the exposed underwear. He did not speak on the floor Tuesday.

Spruill and Howell, also a Democrat, are both black.

    You'll shoot your eye out.

I seen that on the news last night. Is this all they do all day? Making up ridiculous laws and fines. Another retarted law in VA.

That was on the news down here this morning, I just started laughin about it, if they want to fine me $50 then let them fine me, I'll just keep doing it, nobody's going to tell me to change my way of dressing, with force or with questioning, the way I dress makes me feel comfortable with myself, I don't bug other people about what they wear, I expect others to leave me alone about what I wear.

I just got this through an email and posted it in my class...I think Im going to start a collection plate in front of my classroom and only charge $10 and not turn them into the police!!! haha

No seriously I think its funny, I mean on the one hand its kinda stupid, and probably will never be enforced, but on the other I get tired of seeing peoples butts hanging out of their pants.

I agree with The Blue Collar Comedy Tour guys, you should have to go through an application process to wear a thong (especially if it hangs out of your pants!)

I do have to say it does get a little old seeing thong's tops hangin out the top of pants. But ya know do i care?
To me it's up to the person. But should our money be sent on passing laws on it?
Ah i guess a boring session?

It's stupid. Why take the time and money to pass this law and then enforce it??

Yes, super saggy pants are annoying in some cases (and I know they are considering the "whale-tail" - when the thong shows - but i think it's mostly about seeing the boxers or briefs on males) but it is part of our culture now, right?

I just think it's a waste of time...
Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence. In other words, it is war minus the shooting.

Its the continuation of restriction of rights. I wish they would fine plumbers crack view (or equivalent crack view) instead of worrying about thongs or such. At least thats 'something' covering, the old mile-wide crack is nothing but normally unattractive real estate!
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

Okay people are responsible for their own attire. I agree with Rocketer about plumber cracks. Don't like them. They shouldn't fine you for your underpants showing. They want people to wear good belts? They must not want people to breathe.

Hopefully the law won't last long.
